Alone in the Dark Reboot Delayed to Avoid “Chaotic” Release on January 15, 2024

Why was Alone in the Dark’s Reboot delayed?

According to a post on X, the release of Alone in the Dark: Reboot has been postponed to avoid other big games that will be released in October 2023.

The release of the latest game, Alone in the Dark, has been confirmed to launch on January 15, 2024, instead of October 25, 2023.

In the post, it was explained that the release delay was done to ensure the developer could provide an “amazing experience for everyone”.

Developer Pieces Interactive said it is “gracefully” stepping away from the “chaotic” October release window to “avoid competing with Alan Wake 2’s epic release and to evade the dazzling skyline of cities adorned by the graceful swings of Spider-Man”.

Previously, games such as Alan Wake 2 and Assassin’s Creed Mirage also had their release dates changed, although the distance was not as great as in Alone in the Dark.

Although it is not explained explicitly, it can be seen that the postponement of the horror game’s release date is to avoid other big games that might attract more interest from players.

The developer continued: “Horror games thrive on the delicate balance of tension, exploiting our vulnerability and the eerie embrace of solitude. Imagine yourself traversing a dimly lit house in the dead of night, where faint whispers and unidentifiable noises send shivers down your spine.

“Now, picture this unsettling scenario not alone but accompanied by a group of 28 intriguing individuals. The fear factor dwindles, doesn’t it?”

About Alone in the Dark Reboot

For those unfamiliar with it, Alone in the Dark is the “reimagining” of the first game in the Alone in the Dark series that has been dubbed the father of survival horror” in the future.

Alone in the Dark is a series of horror and survival games first developed by Infogrames.

In most games, the player will control private detective Edward Carnby, who will investigate a haunted house or town filled with undead creatures.

The series, especially the debut game, is widely recognized as one of the first survival horror video games and is often credited as the creator of the genre.

The story was originally based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Later games in the series drew inspiration from other sources, including Voodoo, the Wild West, and the works of H. R. Giger.

Six seasons of the series have been created with different themes and locations. Two comics and two movies were created based on the game in September 2018.

The original Alone in the Dark, for those too young to remember, was released in 1992. It’s widely considered to be the grandfather of the survival horror genre, pioneering the fixed-camera spook-house formula that would go on to influence the likes of Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

This reimagined version of Alone in the Dark has Amnesia: The Dark Descent writer Mikael Hedberg at the helm and will follow the basic premise of the 1992 original, in which private detective Edward Carnby (Harbour) helps Emily Hartwood (Comer) investigate her uncle’s suicide at the gloomy Derceto Mansion.

Collaborates with two famous Hollywood actors

The game, developed by Pieces Interactive and published by THQ Nordic, features famous Hollywood actors and actresses, namely David Harbor and Jodie Comer, as the playable protagonists.

The story is very inspired by the original game but with more modern gameplay and is similar to Resident Evil 2 Remake.
